Dr Adam Fraser is a peak performance researcher, professional speaker, author and consultant
In this wide-ranging and incredibly personal discussion we talked about:
- His response to COVID as a dad, as a leader and as a business owner and why it very nearly broke him.
- His favourite bands; The Stones, Earth Wind and Fire and why one of his greatest memories was at an Iron Maiden Concern.
- The importance of asking great questions, being driven by data and challenging assumptions.
- Why he has fallen in love with working with school principals
- And, The importance of transitioning well between “spaces” (whether personal or professional).
This conversation with Adam was very special and had a huge impact on me. In particular, his own personal struggles with feeling the pressure to have “it all together” and his views on the pervasive effects of burnout and how these can reach into all aspects of our lives
I hope that you get as much out of it as I did.

“The most inhumane things have been done to our people, and yet we are still here, we are still welcoming people to our country and we are still willing to share it with everybody” Mundanara Bayles
It is an honour and a privilege to bring you this discussion with the phenomenal woman that is Mundanara Balyes. Mundanara’s cultural heritage is connected to the Wonnarua and Bunjalung people on her mother’s side and the Birri-Gubba and Gungalu on her father’s side. Mundanara grew up in Redfern NSW with her 8 sisters and moved to her father’s country in the early 90’s.
Mundanara is the Managing Director and co-founder of The Australian BlackCard Pty Ltd (BlackCard), which is a 100% Aboriginal owned and operated business certified with Supply Nation. Mundanara co-founded BlackCard with Dr Lilla Watson, who is a respected Aboriginal elder, artist, educator and long-time course developer. BlackCard is a specialist consultancy providing cultural capability training and consultancy services to enable people and organisations to work effectively with members of the Aboriginal community. BlackCard’s purpose is working with people, not for people, with the genius of Aboriginal Knowledge. We talked, (well she talked, I cried!) about many things in this interview including some of the “silent forces” that Aboriginal people face and what the word "Australian" means her. We unpack some of her quotes in which she says that:
“I come from a culture, where most of you are increasing your life expectancy…this is not the case for my culture." (Cultural education: Mundanara Bayles at TEDxSouthBankWomen)"
I am so nervous to release this episode because it is so important. Mundanara is a powerhouse, she is a gift and work has never been more significant than it is now.
Thank you for taking the time to listen to this powerful conversation.

Richard Ingersoll is the leading expert on America’s teaching force. He examines teaching as a job, teachers as employees, and schools as workplaces. He frequently presents information to policymakers at the national, state, and local levels.
Richard’s research is internationally recognised; he was cited by President Clinton in a number of speeches announcing his teacher recruitment and training initiatives, and President Obama’s Council of Advisors on Science and Technology.
He has published over 100 articles, reports, chapters, and essays on topics such as the management and organization of schools; accountability and control in schools; and teacher supply, demand, shortages, and turnover.
In this wide-ranging discussion, we talked about many things, including:
- Why authors John Goldsworthy and Kingsley William Amis have had such an impact on his life.
- Why he believes that there isn’t a teacher shortage in America, rather it is a retention and turnover issue.
- The importance of challenging convention and assumptions with empirical and quantifiable data.
- The role of management, organizational and school culture
Professor Ingersol was a delight to interview and his body and scope of works are simply breathtaking. I hope that you get as much out of this discussion that I did.
